Batman, ‘The Caped Crusader’ one of contemporary society’s most iconic vigilantes has reached his 75th anniversary this year and DC Entertainment and Warner Brothers (WB) Entertainment are starting the year in style, by revealing this new logo that the companies have pumped into social media just today. Representing the ‘Bat-Signal’ that illuminates the sky of the dark and dangerous city that is Gotham, along with the number 75 explicitly showing the celebration of the characters anniversary. In conjunction with the launch of the logo there is a “Cape/Cowl/Create” art exhibition which will entail contemporary artists giving their renditions of Batman in the latest video game of the ‘Arkham’ series: Batman Arkham Knight.
The birth of Batman began way back (all 75 years ago), on March 30th 1939, when he was first introduced as ‘The Bat-Man” in Detective Comics issue 27. From then on the idea and character of Batman has grown and expanded becoming a cultural icon in blockbuster films, comic books, television shows and novelty goods and toys, whilst globally becoming a symbol for the internal battle that is morality, within all of us.
The celebrations will continue throughout the year beginning this Thursday (April 3rd). Some of the festivities to kick off are; the incorporation of the new anniversary logo, the Batman prequel television show going on air- Gotham, and the video game Batman: Arkham Knight, just to state a few.
Keep an eye out for all the great things heading this way throughout the year for The Bat’s birthday and we best not forget- Happy Birthday Batman!
